Family Support Group

The  weekly Virtual Family Support Group  Encore Outpatient Services in Arlington, VA is facilitated by a licensed Family and Marriage Therapist offering support focused on addressing the needs and identified goals of family members and loved ones that have been impacted, directly or indirectly, by the substance use and associated issues of another person, in addition to a variety of psycho-educational and skill building topics.

Family systems are extremely resilient, and with proper support families do find happiness and balance that is not predicated on their loved one remaining abstinent from mood-altering substances.  Additionally, families that enter their own therapeutic process learn effective ways to manage stress and crisis and dramatically improve the chances of their loved one achieving long-term recovery from substance use disorders.

Elements of our weekly virtual family support group include:

  • Family support network development
  • Skill building
  • Understanding family participation in treatment
  • Psychoeducation
  • Community support development
  • Referrals to family therapists as needed

Family support helps everybody in the family and ensures that you have a strong foundation for sustained recovery. Encore offers a weekly virtual family support group which is facilitated by a licensed marriage and family therapist. This approach enhances treatment outcomes and promotes lasting positive change by:

  • Strengthening communication and relationships: The support group can help improve communication, rebuild trust, and establish healthy boundaries. These sessions provide a safe space to address concerns, learn skills to resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships.
  • Providing emotional and practical support: Family members play a key role in encouraging progress, reinforcing coping strategies, and offering emotional stability. Supportive environments can help reduce stress, improve treatment engagement, and promote overall recovery.
  • Education on mental health and recovery: A weekly family support group helps your loved ones understand mental health conditions, substance use disorders, process addictions, recovery strategies, and appropriate boundaries.
  • Reducing relapse risks: With education, your family can better identify early warning signs of relapse, encourage continued treatment, and foster a safe and structured home environment. Family involvement in relapse prevention planning increases the likelihood of sustained recovery.
  • Encouraging long-term engagement: Your loved ones can help you stay committed to your treatment goals by promoting participation in treatment and self-care.
