Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (VASAP)

Encore is an approved VASAP provider offering in-person evaluations and services for alcohol and drug related driving offenses. Located in Arlington near the Ballston Metro, we serve participants across Northern Virginia.

VASAP is a court ordered program that is required following a DUI/DWI or other alcohol/drug related driving offenses and may also be part of license reinstatement. Program requirements and reporting are set by the court and your local Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP).

Participation begins with an in-person clinical evaluation. A licensed clinician completes a structured assessment and reviews relevant records. Based on the results, you may be assigned to treatment or no further services.

All services are delivered in person to meet VASAP requirements. Enrollment, attendance, progress in treatment, drug/alcohol screenings and completion are reported to your ASAP case worker and, when required, to the court and DMV.

The evaluation is required before any services begin and typically approximately two hours. The clinician conducts an interview and may use brief screening tools. At the close of the assessment you will discuss treatment recommendations.

• Contact information for your ASAP case manager
• Any prior assessments or treatment records you want considered

Treatment focuses on substance use psycho-education, relapse prevention, development of healthy coping skills and follows a set curriculum (IOP) with defined hours. Treatment addresses clinical needs related to substance use and may include individual and/or group sessions. Your evaluation determines which level of care will be recommended.

You must attend all scheduled sessions on time. Missed or late sessions may affect compliance, and make-up options depend on availability and VASAP rules. To complete the course, all attendance and participation requirements must be met, and progress will be reported as required.
